Today your driver will pick you up directly at your accommodation for a visit to the splendid maritime city of Pisa to see the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and more. The remote origins of Pisa and its name are lost in myth and legend but it is certain that this city had Eneolithic settlements and the presence of the Etruscans between the 6th and 3rd centuries B.C. Pisa was later Romanized and became a colony of Rome during the time of Octavianus Augustus in the 1st century B.C. Meanwhile the population was growing along with the development of shipbuilding and trade, thanks also to its harbor. The city expanded rapidly and soon Pisa was surrounded by a circle of walls. In 1062 the building of the Pisa cathedral was begun.

The cathedral and baptistery, the tower of Pisa, and the Campo Santo or cemetery, together form one of the most beautiful and famous building groups in the world. The “Piazza dei Miracoli” makes a perfect showplace for these exquisite examples of Romanesque architecture.

The MNAF, Alinari National Museum of Photography, is located in the fifteenth-century building known as ‘delle Leopoldine’, renovated thanks to the fundamental contribution of the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze. The building has been allocated by the City of Florence, the owner of the complex, as exhibition space for its twentieth-century collections, and space has also been granted to the Fratelli Alinari. Fondazione per la Storia della Fotografia. Duly restored and equipped in line with the most up-to-date exhibition requirements, this is where the Alinari National Museum of Photography now has its premises.

The sounds of church bells are what awakens me on Sunday morning. Not at all a bad way to wake up and thankfully the first ones don’t strike until 8:45am, so I am not forced out of bed too early. If I stay in bed for another 15 minutes, the second reminder of Sunday sounds as the bells attempt to call me to church.I’m living in the Santo Spirito area of Firenze, so happy to have moved away from my first apartment by the Ponte Vecchio. My new place is only 25 Euros more a week and it’s more than worth it for its tranquility (one of the few places in Firenze where I’ve not heard the constant noise of Vespas, talking and metal rolling doors being lowered and raised).

Below a list of the items you will need, where to get them and where to take them in order to obtain the "mythical" Italian permesso di soggiorno.

Permesso di soggiorno. What you need?

1) Form for the permesso di soggiorno. This can be found at the Questura (Police Station), for example in Via Zara n°2 (Ph. +39 055 49 771). Please when you go there be prepared to be very very patient because people from all around the world will be in line with you...

2) Photocopies of the first page of your passport and your visa

3) Four passport photos. Photo booths can be found at the train station or near the post office

4) A 'Marca da Bollo'. This costs 14,62 Euros and can be bought at a Tobacco Shop (Tabaccheria)

5) Proof of financial security. This can be the same as you used to get your visa, a letter from your parents or front/back photocopies of your credit card.

6) Enrollment letter from the School or from the University

7) Insurance. The INA insurance is necessary for all students, regardless of the insurance coverage you have at home. To get the insurance, you must go to the main post office (near Repubblica Square in Florence) upstairs on the first floor and get a 'bollettino' that must be filled out.
